For me, keeping things organized is essential to being able to focus on my work (and our home). Right now, my desk is a MESS, I have about 23 different things on my mind, and I really can’t seem to get going on the projects that I need to get accomplished today.
A couple of weeks ago, I implemented a new laundry process. It seemed that I was spending all weekend doing laundry. Since I office from home, I decided I would implement the one-load-per-day method. So far it is working well and I haven’t done laundry on a weekend all month. This makes me happy.
But, I’ve always been a messy desk person. I’ve been told that it goes along with being creative and I should embrace it. Sometimes I can… but then it gets to the point that I just can’t focus and I have to take an hour or two and get it cleaned up. The frustrating thing is, I aspire to be someone with a clean desk — my husband’s desk is always in perfect order and I must admit, I’m a little jealous. I really do have good intentions, but I just can’t seem to get there. Right now, I’m especially frustrated because my desk mess has spilled over into an adjoining room. I have a very generous sized office and there’s really no reason for me to need more space. Perhaps I’m not using my space wisely, but more likely, I just haven’t made it a priority to put things where they belong.
A few months ago, I got a big dry erase board that I could customize. It’s been a big help in keeping my client projects organized, if I could just get a filing system that worked! (Maybe I just need to use the one that I have.)
And now, I’m writing a blog about it when I could be cleaning things up. I’ve already sent off a bunch of e-mails regarding the things that woke me up at 4 a.m. so some of my mental clutter is cleared away. . . it does help to clear my mind before I clear the physical clutter. So now, on to that task…
Do you have tips that seem to work for you to keep your desk organized and clean? I’d love to hear them!
